At Second Spring, we believe that every individual is unique and every situation is different. Our treatment programs are therefore carefully designed to reflect each resident’s needs and objectives. To that end:
We believe that community integration, as well as constant interaction between residents, staff, administration, and the environment, can be crucial to the recovery process. To this end, we encourage residents who we believe are ready to re-integrate with the community to spend time in town on passes, attend (or maybe even perform at) local "open-mic nights", take classes, volunteer, work out at local college gym, and attend 12-Step and other self-help programs.
Each day, residents plan for and carry out their own business (e.g. shopping, trips to the post office, etc.) and banking needs. Most residents also attend Recovery Education/WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Planning) classes offered by Washington County Mental Health. And some residents work with outside specialists to deal with specific treatment needs such as eating disorders or neurology.
We offer a wide range of facilitated groups, including Cognitive-Behavioral-Therapy, Psychopharmacology, Job Readiness, Social Skills, Substance Abuse, Creativity Workshop, Cooking Group, Men’s Group, Anger Management, Psychotherapy Group, Residents’ Group, Relaxation, plus a variety of other wellness modules and personal training.
Residents are expected and encouraged to attend programming at Second Spring that address their unique recovery needs. All residents are welcome to join our facilitated groups and attend planned outings. And we offer paid positions through Vermont Psychiatric Survivors in order to provide residents with job experience and resume building.
In short, Second Spring offers each resident a unique and personalized Recovery Plan designed to help him/her rejoin the community in a meaningful, productive and satisfying manner.
