Q: Can I (as a mental health professional, family member, or counselor) refer a client to Second Spring?
A: It depends on the situation. In most cases, residents are admitted to Second Spring based on referrals from the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury, VT. (See our Admissions process). In some cases, members of the medical or psychiatric community may also wish to refer individuals who they believe could benefit from our services. In such cases, we ask that you contact Denise Stubbs, the Resident Care Coordinator for information on our programs and other admissions requirements.
Q: What will it cost to live at Second Spring?
A: $635 per month. Each resident is allowed a personal needs allowance of $83 before paying the monthly rent charge. If your financial resources are less than the combined amount of the rent and personal needs allowance then Second Spring will reduce your rent to ensure you are able to keep the $83 personal needs allowance each month.
Q: What happens if my Second Spring residential/recovery process does not work out as expected and I leave the program? Will I get my money back?
A: Yes. Despite the best intentions of everyone involved, it is possible that your residential / recovery process will not work out as intended or expected. Should this occur, you will be entitled to a return of any fees paid, minus expenses already incurred.
Q: How long can I stay at Second Spring?
A: The average length of stay for most residents is 7 ½ months. Some residents complete their recovery plans in fewer than 7 ½ months, while others remain in residence for longer periods of time. The maximum length of stay for any resident is 18 months.
Q: What happens when I complete my recovery plan and leave Second Spring, or reach the end of 18 months?
A: Each resident’s situation is different. Some residents transition from Second Spring into a Group Home, which allows for further and continued re-integration into the community. Some residents return to their families, and others return to the programs from which they came. In most cases, where you go after leaving Second Spring is determined in advance as part of your Recovery Plan. You can learn more about life after Second Spring in the Outcomes section of our web site. If you have more specific questions about life after Second Spring, contact our Resident Care Coordinator, Denise Stubbs.
Q: What should I bring with me to Second Spring if I become a resident?
A: Just about everything you will need for living at Second Spring is provided to you under your Admissions Agreement. Most residents bring only their clothing and personal care items. We generally do not allow residents to bring appliances or furniture, as these are provided in the rooms and common areas. If you have questions about a specific item or items you would like to bring with you, please contact Denise Stubbs, the Resident Care Coordinator. Under no circumstances are weapons allowed anywhere on the Second Spring campus.
Q: Will I be allowed to smoke at Second Spring?
A: Yes. Smoking is allowed, but only in designated smoking areas. As part of your Recovery Plan, you may also wish to join our smoking cessation program, which has helped many residents quit the smoking habit and lead healthier lives.
Q: What is included in my monthly fee?
A: Your monthly fee is all-inclusive and covers just about everything you will need during your stay at Second Spring. Upon arrival you will be provided with a single private room furnished with a bed, dresser, nightstand, chair, pillows, and blankets. Each room comes with its own private bathroom. Meals, heat, hot water, electricity, laundry, linen service, and all utilities are included in the cost of your room. You will also have access to all common areas, in which are televisions, stereo equipment, books, games, computers, and the Internet. (Internet access is not available in private rooms.) Transportation to cities and towns throughout Vermont for shopping, banking, medical appointments, activities, interviews, and personal needs is also provided as part of your monthly fee. If you have other questions about what is or is not included in your monthly fee, please contact Denise Stubbs, the Resident Care Coordinator for additional information.
