SECOND SPRING:
A Partnership with Heritage UMC of D’Iberville, Mississippi – its congregation and community -- and the Raleigh District of The United Methodist Church

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed ashore the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama gulf coast, tearing apart the lives of millions of people while causing billions of dollars of damage.    The scope of devastation is difficult to imagine:  the land mass devastated is larger in size than all of Great Britain!  Many people lost their homes, their home furnishings, their cars, and their livelihood.   As we in the Raleigh District started to organize a cohesive effort to help, it became painfully clear that we would need to focus our efforts in one area if we were to be effective.   After conversations between Bishop Gwinn of North Carolina and Bishop Ward of Mississippi in October 2005, we forged a partnership with Heritage United Methodist Church of D’Iberville, Mississippi (near Biloxi) and its community.    It is our intention to work alongside the citizens of the D’Iberville region until the work of rebuilding their lives and community is complete.     We fully recognize that our district churches cannot alone do all that is needed; therefore, we are seeking the assistance of the wider secular and religious communities to assist in the efforts to restore sustainable housing and living conditions to the survivors in and around D’Iberville, Mississippi.

MISSION

Second Spring will help rebuild the lives, homes and communities of the people along the gulf coast in and around Heritage United Methodist Church of D’Iberville, Mississippi.

VISION

Second Spring will walk alongside the people of Heritage United Methodist Church of D’Iberville and the citizens in and around D’Iberville as they rebuild their lives, homes and communities.  We will provide prayers, labor, gifts of money and in-kind donations.
